- Soundtrack
The first thing you need is a backing track for your song. If you are a musician and have a band, you may record your own instrumental version of the song. But most people do not have such luck, what about them? There are two simple ways. One is to find a MIDI version of the song and use it as a backing track. MIDI has improved greatly over the years and nowadays it sound very good. Another way is to use vocal removing software to create a backing track out of a regular song (Karaoke Sound Tools 3 software is great for the job and will do great job with any song you give it).
- Lyrics
This is the easier part. For most of the songs you may find lyrics online, and for the rest you may simply type the lyrics is. If you are lucky you can even find lyrics that are already synchronized with the music (look for .LRC files, they often contain time sync data).
- Synchronize the lyrics
This part is usually the hardest and takes most time. You need to tell the computer when each word should be sung. The process usually is straightforward, but needs to be done and may take from five minutes if you get everything in the first go to whole day, if you are pedantic enough. Synchronization usually is done by pressing a space bar for each subsequent word of the song. Once the process is completed for entire song you may listen to the music and see if lyrics are placed adequately.
- Create a song
Now it is time to reap the harvest of your work. Karaoke maker software such as Karaoke Video Creator or Karaoke CD+G Creator will create a karaoke song out of the data you have provided. It may be a video file or a CD+G song, but in both cases you will get a professional karaoke song for you to sing.
